After 2 years, pop-rock singer P!nk (Alecia Beth Moore) is back with her new
studio album “The Truth About Love”.I just got hold of the album few days ago.
I’d be so bias in this review as I consider myself a P!nk
fan ever since “Just Like a Pill”. For me, she is one of the best vocalists in
the music scene ever. The pitch, range and dynamics of Pink’s vocal prowess do
really show on her new album; actually on some tracks in the album, her voice
does sound like Kelly Clarkson’s, another great vocalist. And take note, when she does her songs live, it should good for sure.
Her former record gave Pink a different sound as she tried
to get along with the Pop trend, not that I did not liked it but it delights me
more that on her current CD, the good-old powerhouse P!nk sound is so back.
Composed mostly of hip-rock-alternative tracks, Pink entices
her fans with nicely-written ballads and trendy pop-rock musical tracks.
The carrier single “Try” was a nice mix of
pop-alternative-rock and a little blues; melody’s nice and the lyrics is fine.
What I love most of all the songs in the album was “Just
Give Me a Reason”, a pop-alternative track featuring FUN’s frontman Nate Ruess,
their voices complimented really well, it has a goosebump feel when you
listened to it.
Tracks like “Blow Me (One Last Kiss)” is an easy favourite;
“True Love” and “Slut Like You” gives a Pop sense to its listeners.
“How Come You’re Not Here” is a hard rock track that brings
the rocker out of P!nk while the melody of “Truth About Love” has a feel-good
vibe yet, bitterness on love is all over the lyrics.
“Beam Me Up” and “The Great Escape” are laidback alternative-ballads
that hopeless romantics can definitely enjoy.
What surprises me the most was the last track in the album “Good
Old Days”, – a country-sounded song sung by a rocker; they were able to pull it
off despite of the ukulele getting along with an electric guitar in the
background. The lyrics depict Pink while reminiscing her good old days, when
she was younger and lives are much simpler.
Over-all, the album is excellent in terms of variety and
surprises; all of the songs are worth your ears, it sounded pleasing that even
non-fans can definitely enjoy it, if not all, most of it.
Definitely worthy of your hard-earned pennies, and no auto-tuned vocals at all!
Grammy material? I hope so!
Way to go P!nk!
